Silverlight 2 launch party in Portland tonight

PDXUX.Net is hosting a Silverlight 2 launch party in Portland tonight, at North.

Tim Heuer will be the featured presenter, and I’ll come in and do fifteen minutes or so of media demos. There will be ample time for mingling and Q&A as well.

Sorry it’s such a last minute announce – we only just worked out the plan.

I've always called my annual compressionists party something like the "Ben Waggoner Compressionist's Party" but David Sayed from the Expression Encoder team suggests the much better name of the "Secret Compressionist's Ball"

Better yet, he's got a couple of video interviews from the party! You'll see me in the background in my mildly famous purple shirt in a few shots.

Second, Bruce Lidl from MainConcept talking about their VC-1 codec implementation they're now licensing out, including support on Mac and Linux.

Yep, it's time again for the my annual compresionist's party at NAB. And now that I work for Microsoft, the snacks are better than ever! We're not exactly sure what time and which room yet; I'll share details when we get closer. But we try to start early enough and run late enough that we're a good stop on the way to or from dinner. Eyebeam.org 10th Anniversary Celebration Party

Eyebeam is the center for technology and arts. They recruit artists to become residents in their studio space and spend their time creating brilliant works of art. They are constantly having events and gallery showings which are both educational and inspiring. Recently they celebrated their 10th anniversary by throwing a huge party and since I never like to miss a party...I headed on over and brought my camera so I could share it all with you. Enjoy.

From deep inside E3 '07 I stole some time with Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson. We found a dark corner in the Library at the C3 at E3 party at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica and took the opportunity to wax poetic. If you haven't checked out Microsoft's Virtual Earth yet, you definitely should. I swung by their offices and got a preview of it about a month ago and I was utterly impressed. In fact, I liked it so much that I headed down to San Francisco to celebrate with the team and some esteemed journalists at their launch party. While I was mixing and mingling I decided to bust out the camera and get on tape some peoples first impressions about Virtual Earth 3D. I skedaddled on over to the launch party where the scene was off the hook! Great venue, live belly dancers, tasty appetizers and of course- great gameplay. I got the chance to speak with a few key players on the production side of Guild Wars and then one "SuperFan". It brought me back to my days at BlizzCon *tears*...

How many of you have ever been to a launch party for your FAVORITE game? It must be like meeting Madonna....
