During the service's technical trial, international broadcasters included Al Jazeera, BBC, Bloomberg, EuroNews, France 24, Sky and Canal Plus, all which were streamed live via the service. As they go to launch, Livestation is adding new channels like Setanta Sports News, for example, a UK sports news channel which includes football, rugby, boxing, cricket athletics and darts, which will be available to viewers in both the US and the UK. The final version of Livestation is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2008, but, in the meantime, you can register to download the pre-release beta version at www.livestation.com.

<evnet:views>6070</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/21975/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Livestation, the desktop player that streams live TV, has just announced that they will be focusing solely on live news going forward. Livestation, the new video streaming service that features Silverlight technology, has begun its invite-only beta this past week by sending out invites to those who signed up for on the Livestation web site.

With Livestation, you can watch a range of live radio and television channels on your computer if you have a broadband connection, with no need to install a tuner, aerial, or any additional hardware. Unlike other Video-On-Demand services, Livestation delivers live broadcast channels, so you can watch news, sports or live events as they happen.

After downloading and installing the software, you sign in with your username and password in order to launch the player. By default, the player stays on top of your other windows, making it easy to keep watching while doing other things on your computer. While you are listening or watching, Livestation shares some of the stream with other users. This allows Livestation to serve a very large number of simultaneous users - even millions - without running into limitations of other streaming services.

Right now the selection of channels on LiveStation is somewhat limited. LiveStation offers you channels based on where you live. For example, U.S. users can access BBC World Service and Channel 4 radio streams, Al-Jazeera in English, and France 24, making LiveStation a must-have for any news junkies out there.

Currently Livestation is available for Windows XP and Vista only.

<evnet:views>6926</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/21181/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>

LiveStation is built on two technologies, Pastry and Splitstream, both of which were developed at Microsoft's Cambridge Research Lab.

Pastry is a type of peer-to-peer system and Splitstream sits on top of Pastry allowing the live video distribution. LiveStream then displays the video content via Microsoft's Silverlight technology. Then end result is streaming video of such high quality that you may think you're watching a DVD. Live TV streamed seamlessly to your computer? Sounds revolutionary! LiveStation is currently in controlled beta, but has a sign up form here. (Found via Don Dodge's blog, Don Dodge on the Next Big Thing)

<evnet:views>12401</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/18263/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>LiveStation is a new project that brings live, streaming television to your PC with incredible speed. With LiveStation, there is no buffering or jerky stops and starts; the streamed content is crisp and clear.
