Xbox 360 at E3 2008

The games have begun and Microsoft's Xbox 360 came full force with their showings for this years E3. There's exciting news about an all new dashboard, a partnership with Netflix, and of course TONS of cool games. Take a look at some highlights from their press conference here and see demos of Fallout 3, Gears Of War 2 and of course...the long awaited and stunningly beautiful, Final Fantasy XIII. Plus a few extra goodies including a live musical performance and some fun surprises. Enjoy!

E3: Peter Moore talks!

This year E3 really changed things up in terms of format and location. While it was a smaller event, it was definitely more intimate and really allowed those in attendance to spend some time with the games...and the game makers. I found Microsoft Games Executive Peter Moore at the Viceroy for a community party and he was more than happy to share his thoughts with me. Peter has just announced that he's leaving Microsoft to head up EA Sports down in San Francisco. Take a look at this clip from what can now be considered one of his farewall parties.

Electronic Arts had a stellar presence at this year's E3. Showing off nearly 20 games for platforms including the Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii and even an entire section devoted to Mobile Gaming- the EA booth was the place to be. I did a booth tour and tried to hit some of the key players- take a look at this clip to see some of their games and to get a first look at ROCK BAND in action!

Microsoft's Press Briefing at E3 '07

When I heard that the Microsoft press briefing was being held at a High School in Santa Monica California I thought, "Really? wow, that's lame." But when I walked into a field of huge glowing balls and neon green lights illuminating the sky, my tune quickly changed. Stadium seating surrounded a pool of water backed by a tremendous movie screen with stages on both sides. It was, for lack of a better word, badass. And THEN we get to the games! I'll let you watch for yourself to see what Peter Moore had to say and show...but trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Novidades para o Xbox 360 e Games for Windows Direto do E3

Para quem é fã de vídeo games, não há evento mais importante que o E3 - Electronic Entertainment Expo, tradicional evento que perdeu um pouco de seu espaço para o CES - Consumer Electronics Show - devido à convergência de produtos digitais. Com uma nova cara e audiência mais restrita, o novo E3 começa essa semana e ontem à noite aconteceu a coletiva de imprensa da Microsoft. Vários anúncios saíram do evento de ontem.

No site oficial do Xbox (em inglês) há uma cobertura completa:
- Entrevistas em vídeo com o Peter Moore e Shane Kim, além de um "por detrás do E3", trailers de jogos e outros vídeos legais
- Fotos da coletiva da Microsoft
- Alguns artigos interessantes sobre os lançamentos
- Um blog do pessoal de Xbox que está no evento

O blog do Major Nelson (em inglês) também é uma excelente fonte de informação. Para quem não conhece, o Major Nelson é um funcionário da Microsoft que interage com a comunidade Xbox através do blog dele. Ele sempre tem informação legal e exclusiva para divulgar.

Como o novo E3 é mais voltado para a própria indústria em si (e menos para os fãs), a coletiva da Microsoft começou falando de dados de vendas e penetração do Xbox 360 no mercado estadunidense. Se eu puder resumir sem entrar nos números, diria que "as crianças cresceram", games não são mais só games e sim a maior indústria de entretenimento nos Estados Unidos. A venda de vídeo games ultrapassará a venda de música ainda esse ano nos Estados Unidos (já havia ultrapassado Hollywood há alguns anos). Isso realmente prova que a geração que cresceu com Nintendo e Atari não abriu mão de sua diversão - nós ainda queremos games!
