MSN To Host Launch Of (RED)Wire

On December 1st, MSN will host the launch of a new digital music service, (RED)Wire, which will help raise money for HIV/AIDS in Africa. The site, hosted at http://red.msn.com will include world premieres from Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, John Legend, U2, and others. Subscribers will get exclusive songs and artwork from these and other top artists each week for only $5 per month. A portion of the proceeds from the subscriptions will go to Global Fund, an organization which funds programs to fight AIDS. This won't be the first time Microsoft teamed up with (RED) - there's also a line of Dell (RED) edition Vista Ultimate computers whose sales also help fund the (RED) efforts in Africa. $0

A new program aims to make hospitals more fun for kids through technology. That’s the mission of a whole host of organizations nationwide like the Companions in Courage Foundation. Founded by pro hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine, the organization sets up what it calls Lion's Dens – rooms like one just opened at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.

"We can create an atmosphere and environment where kids can escape to and be a safe haven where they can play games and videos and create art and create music and video conference with friends, their heroes, their grandparents, and just be, with technology, connected to the outside world," LaFontaine said. "We really have four primary components: video game, so Xbox 360; we have the PCs, so kids can go in and instant message and email, they can get homework assignments," Jim Johnson of the Companions in Courage Foundation said. "We also have a big screen television; and then we have the video conference pod, which is a live video conference that allows them to connect to relatives that may be out of town or celebrities."

You've heard about the i'm initiative before - it's the charitable movement that allows you to donate to your favorite causes just by using IM. Now, you can participate in both Windows Live Messenger or Hotmail or both. You can choose to support the same organization in both places or pick a different one for each service. To get started, go to http://im.live.com to join. This program is currently available only in the U.S. and benefits organizations like the American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the National AIDS Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, ninemillion.org, Sierra Club, StopGlobalWarming.org, Susan G. "I'm" Still Making a Difference

Have you heard of i'm? The i'm initiative lets Windows Live Messenger users give money to selected charitable organizations just by using IM. The money comes from Microsoft's advertising revenues and goes to support organizations like the Red Cross, Unicef, Boys and Girls Club, Sierra Club, the Humane Society, and more. The program, now a year old, has now donated $1.3 million to the ten participating organizations so far, according to the Windows Live Messenger blog.

If you want to participate, it's easy - just open up Windows Live Messenger and go into the Options from the Tools menu (it's on the last button on the right). Look for your name in the box where it says "Display Name" under the personal section. After your name, just type in the code (see below) for the organization you want to support.

Here are the codes:

American Red Cross code = *red+u
Boys & Girls Clubs of America code = *bgca
The Humane Society of the United States code = *hsus
National AIDS Fund code = *naf
National MS Society code = *mssoc

IM for a cause! Join the i'm Initiative from Windows Live Messenger to help out your favorite cause. Every time you send an IM, a portion of Live Messenger's advertising revenue goes to one of the program's partners, which include: the American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Humane Society of the United States, the National AIDS Fund, the National MS Society, ninemillion.org, the Sierra Club, StopGlobalWarming.org, Suss G. Komen for the Cure, and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Each organization will receive a minimum of $100,000 and there is no maximum! To get involved, all you have to do is paste the text code corresponding to the organization of your choice next to your display name in Live Messenger (click on your name and go to options). I´M HELPING THE WORLD - BY CHATTING A LOT

If you like to chat and also enjoy helping others there is a great option for you. And it will not cost you a cent. For every conversation you start by using Windows Live Messenger there is a certain amount of money donated to your preferred charity organization - e.g. I've chosen the UNICEF. In order to contribute to our society this way you just have to add a special logo "I´M" in front of your name. There has been almost $150,000 raised so far.
You might also consider to star in a new MTV project that is starting now in order to promote this cause.
Windows Live Messenger has over 220 million contacts worldwide. It is popular for the wide range of services it offers. Apart from the traditional text, phone and video conversations users can play games (e.g. chess), chat with special agents like Encarta and share their photos and other files.
