Now xbox lovers can enjoy episodes of their favorite television shows from the comfort of their wireless 360 controllers. They’ve added television into the menu in your dashboard. Jesse sat down with the brains behind the feature to talk about multi-tasking. Now you can watch Desperate Housewives and Tyra at the same time. But don’t worry your friends will still think you’re playing Halo.

You would think the effort would have been spent on IPTV functionality in Media Center, and just extend it to the 360.  You gain some users who don't use Media Center for the IPTV piece, but you now have to basically develop twice if they add it to Media Center.  The idea is great, but the execution could be much more efficient.

DeaconBlade says it's fake, and there was no mention of it in the MS keynote speech. I'm guessing it's fake, at least for now.

You asured me there wasn't going to be a newer Xbox 360 with updated features, Duncan.  If there is, then I'm holding you personably responcible for lying to me!  Just kidding! :)

Duped is probably the wrong word. The thing is I would've loved to have had HDMI, but I don't cause I have a gen 1 Xbox. Most people don't have the money to run out and buy a new 360 every year. It just feels like if you'd waited until now to get a 360 you'd be getting a better deal. Nintendo does the same thing with their handhelds. But, let's wait and see if this v2 360 is even real.

"I think people who bought the 360 in the first year got kind of duped"

I haven't heard anything credible about a v2, but I don't really understand this comment from you Teddy.... to use an analogy I saw on engadget, if you buy a car in 2006 and the 2007 model adds some feature did you 'get duped'? Or did they just add a feature?

From what I understand it is supposed to be streaming with the DVR capabilities which is perfect once a larger hard drive is released, as I assume this will be compatible with current 360 owners and will not require the purchase of new version of the 360. As far as I can tell this will simply allow the 360 to function as an IPTV set top device that will stream and record television shows.

Hopefully network based television shows from Fox, NBC, CBS, etc. will be available as well. If would have to be if the goal is for this to be an all encompassing TV experience. From the demo video it seems to work very quickly and has some nice guide features built in for sure. Plus they did note that the video download service will remain independent of the IPTV functionality. So there will be a couple of different ways to bring television and video content to the 360. Streaming 720p IPTV content would be something I would consider if the channel offerings are there.

Yeah, but if that's true then I think people who bought the 360 in the first year got kind of duped. I know I would love to have HDMI and a 120 gig HD in my 360.

Word has it that the 360 2.0 is going to have HDMI , 120 GB HDD , have a 65 nm process CPU , and support for ipTV among other things. Sort of puts Sony and Apple in a bad spot :)

As long as I can keep my closeted Tyra obsession quiet I'm sold. Now, let's just get MS to put out a bigger hard drive.

Oh hell yeah!  The 360 is becoming a venerable video media behemoth.  Will any of this new content be streaming...or are we condemned to downloading?  The aforementioned also demands me to inquire when a larger hard drive will be available.

Can you imagine how cool it would be to download and watch any episode of a series you loved?  It would also decrease the need to buy DVD box sets.
