I've been "secretly" trying out Live Mesh for over a week, but I just cannot contain my excitement anymore.

About User Account Control

If you're using Windows Vista, you must have User Account Control (A feature in Windows Vista that can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It will ask you for permission or an administrator password before performing actions, such as installing new software or changing settings, that could affect your computer's operation.) enabled to install the Live Mesh software. To enable the Live Mesh Remote Desktop enhancements, you must be logged on to Windows Vista using an administrator account.

As to your question why? I can at least promise you the intention is not to annoy people :)

i dont suppose there is any to run this w/o uac installed? i disable uac on my media center server (because uac causes problems) but now i cant run the install. i dont see any reason uac would matter.... other than ms wanting to annoy people.

Mesh looks great from both user and developer perspectives. 2 comments:

make sure you kill FolderShare (and maybe SkyDrive.) We don't want to see again this branding complexity for same products and canibalism between tools. I don't see the difference. Maybe there is, but it will never be obvious to the consumer.
Will it be integrated in the overall Windows Live services or be a different service?

Yes, if you could use other sources other than SkyDrive that would open up a lot of opportunities. If Home Server or Windows Server that would be very nice.

Does the mesh app support encryption between other mesh members?

This looks like a great product. It would be even cooler if I could use my Windows Home Server as the back end storage instead of SkyDrive.

I'm happy to eliminate copying things to USB thumb drives or to a server share. Makes it extremely easy to access files I want from various computers around the house/work. Simple as a right click.
