Good to hear the build went OK. It's always those things in the way you don't expect that take the time.

-- that's what happened when I installed the Zalman fan: trying to determine if removing bits was a good thing to do or not

Have you looked at clocking your GPU?

Well, I spent about 3.5 hours yesterday putting my system together, most of the time spent was taking out the motherboard twice after installing it, once because I forgot to screw in a riser, the other time when I realized I couldn't fit the PSU into the top of the case (has a steel bar across) with the Thermaltake Cooler that was sitting on top of the CPU. I didn't want to mess with removing the cooler, so off the mobo went, again.

Anyway, I am getting a 5.9 score on all Windows Performance components, which I guess is a good thing, but my 3DMark06 score (I am a gamer after all, and while I don't obsess over benchmarks, I'd like to at least make sure I'm in the general ballpark of where others are), was a tad on the low side, 10,800 where it should be closer to 12,000. No big whoop, it's running Vista 32 Business just fine, and I installed OneCare since I had it for my laptop already, easy to add another PC.

Next stop, WoW! And Crysys, and Bioshock, and and...

<evnet:views>0</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/20793/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>G'day Nick,

Q6600

4 GB Crucial DDR2 PC6400

8800GT

Abit IP35 Pro MB

Corsair VX520 PSU

Antec Solo case

I'll check and see what the Windows Performance ratings are once I get the thing up and running. I'll be using the 32 bit version of Vista for now. I also just got one hard drive, 250GB SATA, 7200rpm. I know it's better to have a separate OS/program drive that does 10k rpm and keep the larger, slower drive for data but I doubt it'll make that much of a difference.

The Mobo will allow for some decent OC-ing so I'll be cranking up the fbs to 333 if at all possible.

Oh, that whole system cost me around $1,350.- before $100.- mail-in rebates. But I had heard about the prices in Australia. www.rage3d.com is my stop for all things hardware and PC gaming related :) Be sure to show off your system there.

<evnet:views>0</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/20699/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Very nice, I ordered a somewhat similar system (parts) myself just last week, they should be arriving any day:
