I’ve been sitting on this one for a little bit until closer to launch… that’s right, it’s almost Guitar Hero: World Tour time (October 26th to be exact).

“But Max, I already have Rock Band… what’s the big deal with this?!?”  I don’t know which one is better yet, but based on what Brandon told me about the track editor where you can make your own instrument tracks for your own songs and share them online, this might be the killer “must have” feature of the video-console-rockin’-out-style-games.  I also really liked the symbol additions to the drums, the pressure sensitivity, and not mentioned is the ability to use the drum header to plug in a real electronic drum set to rock out in some real style………… ohhh man I must do that!

So here’s the question ladies and lads:  are the new features of Guitar Hero: World Tour compelling enough to get you Rock Band owners to buy another set, or did you all just wait for this game anyway??

Oh yeah!  I am stoked for World Tour, despite the fact that I'm something of a Rock Band Loyalist.  I feel like Activision just assimilated Harmonix's franchise and has been borrowing concepts from them ever since.

I really love the band camaraderie that comes from Rock Band, so I'm eager to see how well World Tour compares.  Sure, just playing the music together is part of the experience, but so is the customized band name, logo, motto, and post cards that Rock Band gives you throughout the game.  I know world Tour finally allows for fully customized characters, but I haven't heard much on how customizable the band concept is.

While I like the six input drum scoring World Tour has to offer, I really don't care for the Drum Set.  I think it's aesthetically awkward and the cymbals feel cheap.  I prefer the design of Rock Band's drum set, but I like world Tour's scoring. I have the Ion Drum Rocker premium drum set, However, so there is no chance I'm buying World Tour's set.

On a final note (pun intended), I just have to ask why a game about band music is entitled "Guitar Hero"?  I know it's the so-called continuation of the franchise, but it sounds to me like guitars are still the emphasis there.  If Activision has indeed been copyrighting a number of music related game titles, would it have hurt them to call it "Band Hero" or "Music Hero"?  The benefit of such a franchise title would be the opportunity to expand into a much wider variety of music other than rock.
