Up until recently if you wanted to have a Media Center that recorded your cable pay channels, you had to buy an certified Windows Media Center. That
changed last year
when Microsoft opened up the platform allowing any of us to build Media Centers that rely on CableCard. The last mile problem that remained was in finding a tuner that would take a cable card.
Ceton
has done just that and are taking pre-orders on a PCIe card that will allow you to record up to 4 HD streams at once. The new card is $399 and is expected to start shipping May 31st. Ed Graczyk stopped by with one of the cards and tells us a little more about it.
