While everyone else is talking about it and showing grainy camera phone pictures from undisclosed bunkers, we thought we’d go right to the source and get you an exclusive video. You think you need it, you know you want it, and we have it – the Xbox 360 Elite. I sat down with Albert Penello to get some of your questions answered. Yes, it has HDMI & 120GB hard drive. No, it doesn’t have an HD-DVD player. Yes you can still pull audio separate from the HDMI. No, it isn’t going to be a limited edition. Yes, it’s awesome! Watch the video for more, including what comes in the L337 box.

This is the best system out there.  It has the best graphics on any games.  True the PS3 has a lot of power to it.  But progamming for it does not compare to the 360 Elite.  Thanks microsoft for the best sytem out there.  Get yours free by going to http://www.360Elite4free.com/index.php?ref=3959568br>

I just wondered if it has a quieter DVD drive as this seems to be the only real complaint of the 360.Leo Laporte brings this up every chance he has ! Though deep down he is just anti-MSFT :) And when are the 65nm cpu models going to ship? They would run cooler and quiter.

Considering the huge blunders sony has made, microsoft really has done extremely well by comparison, but considering how much more ambitious home is than xbox live, considering online is free with sony, and considering that sony pays to host servers that are lag free (live's are peer to peer)  microsoft really isn't trying all that hard to exploit their current weaknesses...

and now they've adopted a weakness, by raising the price of the console even higher.

the 360, back in 2005 should have launched with---

1- no multiple SKU's.  this confuses the customer

2- free xbox live-  hard core gamers might be willing to pay, but nobody else will.  microsoft should be trying to attract more people to the console, not trying to nickle and dime the ones already using it.  peer to peer gaming costs you nothing MS, everyone knows it.

3- HDMI support, VGA support, Optical out built on the console, DVI support.

so many people would buy this console if it worked on pc monitors out of the box.  i have alot of friends who play my 360, who say they would buy it if they had an HDTV...  and they've got a widescreen pc monitor...

did microsoft not try to sell this upgrade as a seperate cable, maybe this friend of mine would know it works on pc monitors, maybe the console would be more popular, maybe less people would wrongely think they don't have a display in their home that supports 720P

time and time again, microsoft has attempted to rip off gamers, and while i realize they are losing money off each console sold, the petty things they try to sell seperately combine to become the reason the console won't reach ps1 or ps2 sales numbers.

microsoft should be aiming for mass market, instead the corporate philosophy is, lets try to get 30 million people to buy the console, and then make our money back by selling a 20 gig hard drive for 100$ when it only costs us 20$, by selling a wireless adapter for 100$ while it only costs us 10, while selling a VGA cable for 40$ when it only costs us 5$.

i could go on, but i shouldn't.

microsoft has made this into the hardcore console.

they could remedy that with the elite, right now.   drop the price 80$, add in wifi to make going online easy, add in more optical and audio support so everyone with a cheap pc monitor can experience high def....

it wouldn't be so hard, but microsoft just doesn't want to win this one.

Well  that problem is not prevolent, and only really affected new machines at launch, however the 360 does have  overheating issues, so much so that if you are going to play for extended periods it would be wise to buy one of those heat extraction attachments from third parties.

The new 360 has not had it's internal compostion re jigged therefore it will still be prone as it once was, simply playing in a well ventilated room and not placing your XBOX on the carpet should prevent these problems that few have.  LS

You know how a lot of people are complaining about there Xbox 360 because it keeps breaking down. Well, I have a question. Will the new Xbox 360 Elite keep breaking down like the non-Elite 360? Because I'm thinking of buying a Xbox 360 Elite so I can play Gears of War. But then again if the Elite will break down like the non-Elite 360, I might not buy a 360 considering I know some people who have a 360 and I can just play Gears of War with their 360s.

I will be getting this despite a 360 already residing in my home (not mine:), i recently bought a Bravia TV and getting this will be the best way to take advantage of it, it also looks more aesthetically pleasing to the eye in black.  Thanks for the exclusive vid Tina. LS

What a joke, anyone that is going to trade in their premium system for this "too late and no HD unit" should be kick in the nutts

(pass this to all your friends)

I currently own a "Premium 360".The "Elite" move mystifies me. If you had included the HD-DVD I could see it. Here is what needs to happen(in my opinion). Phase out the "Core" system, redesign the "Premium" to include the smaller chipset and HDMI, make the price $299.99.  The "Elite" sytem also needs the smaller chipset and price it at $399.99. Microsoft is in a prime position to grow their market share and keep it from Sony, but they seem unwilling to make the moves to do it.

Actually, the price of the Elite is still lower than that of the PS3. Your calculation of buying an older Xbox 360 when it came out and now buying a bigger drive discounts the value of being able to play games online for a year and a half while the PS3 came to be.

Sort of a dick move Microsoft, I love you guys, but come on. These "Elite" "upgrades" should have been standard at launch. Now you are forcing your consumers that alread paid $400 bucks at launch to pay another $180 for a more reasonalble size hard drive. So now its like paying $580 for a 360 without a HDMI port. Thanks a lot Microsoft. No more using the price point against the PS3 to sell your system.

I see no problem with selling an Elite console as from what I understand there have been quite a few people holding off on purchasing a 360 becasuse they wanted HDMI and even the larger hard drive. And I am totally happy with my 360 as well and have no impending need for HDMI at this point, but the hard drive being sold separately may be something I will consider picking up at some point. Though it does seem a bit pricey at $180, almost half the price of the premium system.

Thanks for the video.

I'm not sure why there's so much negativity surrounding the Xbox360 Elite and the new hard drive. I think it's a good move for the Xbox team and definitely a step in the right direction. It's definitely a good option for future buyers.

As for me, I might pick up the 120gb hard drive. I'm in no need of an HDMI output and a black finish, I'm 150% happy with my current launch day console.

They want you to resell your original launch console. I personally have no feelings for mine since it's like a lawnmower when the dvd spins up.

If for no other reason I'd trade in my 360 for an Elite just to get a quiet console.

Then also to see if the VGA/Component dongle and HDMI cable work concurrently. Use HDMI for surround audio at long last while using VGA or Component for video. Could also just look for an HDMI splitter.. ugh.

Isn't it funny they justify the cost of the 120 gig hdd by stateting that extra cost goes to security for that drive..

Really? I thought people were hooking them up to SATA ports on their computers and reading from them without any trouble at all.

Hopefully those guys will figure out a way to get large OEM drives running through that port on the 360 since MS isn't willing to open it up to consumers who want to attach 400-500-750 gig OEM harddrives.

--

They probably aren't ever going to do anything about the D-pad which is more of a hat switch than an 8 way directional control.

If the extra $$$ counts as a feature.. Check out the Hryb audioblog for that gem of a quote.

I wondered about that. Will there be a way for current 360 owners to upgrade to hdmi through an adapter or component to HDMI cable? I'd like to get rid of all the wires and switches, but I don't want to buy a whole new 360 to do it, especially when my launch 360 is still going strong.

I'm fine with my premium system, though i do want HDMI badly. hoepfully they'll release a kit to add an HDMI output from the existing consoles....

That's awesome. It's nice to be able to end all that "is it or isn't it an April Fool's joke?" speculation. I really like the black controller with the gray underbelly. It looks sleak. And I'm glad to see HDMI cables included, as well as component. Well anyway, since one of my two predictions about the announcement was correct, what do I win? Elite? Nice!

Well, at least I don't have to fork over more cash to buy a console I already have.

At last...the bigger hard drive we've all been craving and Microsoft was even considerate enough to let us transfer data this time.

I'm wondering if there were any improvements made to the D-pad on the controller.  Probably not.  The original was poorly constructed and did not always register movement properly.

Is it just me or is the whole thing quite ghastly in black?  I know it will look better beside the original behemoth, but correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the 360 designed in Asia around a white shell from the very beginning.  Dipping it in black really throws off the whole design aesthetic.

Pretty cool I may have to "upgrade" mine for the HDMI capability however I hope I can get this in white vs. blk. As silly as it may sound I've grown accustomed to the "new" white color and if you're going to use the BMW analogy I better have more options for the price; I know I did when I got my 5 series, so I hope it's the case with this Elite system.

Cool stuff though and great job Tina.

Sweet Elite is finally official and all this retarded rumour mongering finally die. christ, not soon enough.

Pointless I hope no one buys into this ridiculous overpriced, underpowered (software) "relaunch" of the high end SKU.

Also both interviews, Tina's and Hryb's try to spin Elite for canadians even though XBLVM is NOT available to canadians. What's that about? tsk.
