The launch of a new console is an exciting event and lines means lots of people and lots of people means good times! Headlines everywhere were reporting on these huge lines of gamers forming outside electronics stores, waiting to get their hands on the first US shipment of the PlayStation 3. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to check in with my people, offer them some free food...and try to bribe them out of their spot in line with a free premium Xbox 360. Let's see just how loyal these Sony fans are...

Hahaha, This is one of my favorite shows yet. "Who nourishes you?!" That was great. I wish I was that guy in line...oh well, I guess i'll just play the 360 I have. Good job gals.

Top vid Laura - really enjoyed it.

Interesting to see the comments - PS3 is sounding lame, Sony looks like they are just milking the PS2 fan base :-(

it doesn't have flash on it, or java. or anythign useful, as i have started using it more and more.
edit: i guess it has a primitive form of flash.
and it says it's "java powered" on the box...

I hope the web browser was better than the one one the PSP.

Seriously, the PSP-esque interface on the PS3 is kind of lame. It might have been impressive if they launched with that kind of thing with the PS2.

I couldn't find a buyer quick enough, and will either wait until december or keep it for myself.

I actually saw a line forming in front of the Redmond Fred Meyer on Saturday morning for the Wii launch. Funny thing was, it was mostly made up with what looked like kids (there were a couple there who had to be around 11 or maybe even younger). Most of them had their DS's in tow.

For the guy who didn't seem impressed with 360 titles, especially Gears of War, I would have asked him about what games out there did impress him enough to be interested in? If anything, that might have been good for a laugh or two. ;)

How many of those PS3 were for sale? Seems like nearly all of them. Pretty sad when the demand seems to stem more from "How much can I get from this?" versus "I can't wait to play this game!"

What happens if AMD stops making R420 based Xenos?

[\hijack] Since they (AMD) bought ATI they are obligated to continue making the part.

But if they see no profit in it**.. what if they decide to just call it a loss and stop?

** AMD will need mad profit to avoid being bought out themselves. Dropping Xenos may prove a wiser course of action if 360 sales continues being so low.

On the other hand MS+AMD could dump the old ATI R420 Xenos for an R600 part (with D3D10 support) making 360 tons better that PS3 almost overnight.

Thanks a lot for the pizza and drinks Laura! Was really random seeing someone I've watched on G4 for years just show up in Washington for the PS3 launch, but it really made our day.

Right after you left, a construction worker guy showed up with his non-english speaking employee and camped out, yet wouldn't listen to us when we told him multiple times that he wasn't getting a PS3.

Anyway, thanks again!

Thanks again.

A heart warming story, and video.

It's nice to see the warm and fuzzy side of MS.

Will there even be lines for Wii launch?

I mea stock isn't going to be an issue (not right away anyway), and the fans will mostly be civilized parents.. will they not?

I love this segment. I was listening to Scot Rubin's radio show and he mentioned that you did this, so I ran over to see if the video was up, and sure enough. On the radio this morning they were bribing people to step out of line. They got the second guy in line to leave by offering him 500 bucks cash, 200 bucks in gift cards, box seats for him and 20 of his friends at the Atlanta Trashers game, and an all expenses paid trip to Vegas. Total value - $5000. I kind of half-ass tried to get a PS3, then I said to hell with it. I want one, but not till about March when some actual good games come out like Lair and Heavenly Sword. Sure Resistance looks awesome, but it's just 1 game and I'm still busy sawing Locusts in Gears. I'll check out Resistance when I get the system next year. Now, what do I have to do to get one of those fancy on10 stickers?

Brilliant stuff, Laura.  I was expecting you gals to try something on PS3 Launch.  Shame on Tina for not roughing it out with you!

I want one of those 10 stickers or a T-shirt, preferably autographed.  All this time I've been loyal to 10, and have nothing to show for it...other than a computer full of 10 podcasts and a hanful of backgrounds that I've designed or downloaded.  Ah well.

I'll be the Nintendo World Store in NY for the launch of the Wii on Sunday.  I want to get a picture with Reggie.  I'll put any pictures I take up on Flickr.  G4 will probably be there for some minor coverage.

Edit: Maybe we should do this for the Wii launch too.  ;)

LOL!! I drive by that exact Target every day and you were there last night with those poor...lucky, ba*tards? It is freak'in cold!! I guess I shouldn't say "poor", because they all (probably) have PS3s right now in their homes.

Anyway, that was an interesting video. I couldn't believe what that one dude said about the 360 and Gears of War...I'll just end that topic, right now...those guys are lucky they weren't shot in a drive-by or robbed.

Very nice of you and the 10 team to give away a 360 and pizza.

Well, I'm not getting a PS3 this year, but I am planning on getting a Wii and Twilight Princess, tomorrow night.

P.S.-  DigiPein is a great place (but, it is tough and surely, gets people ready for the real world of developing videogames and animation, etc).
